The standard considered here is derived from US standard of per head per day income which is $2 as the poverty line and is built up on that.
The socio economic status is defined as per below categorization:

Below poverty line - $2 or less per head per day (₹165 or less)
Low income group - $2.01 to $10 per head per day (₹166 to ₹800)
Middle income group - $10.01 tp $30 per head per day (₹801 to ₹2500)
High income group - $30.01 tp $50 per head per day (₹2501 to ₹4200)
Rich - $50 and above per head per day (₹4200 or more)
